How do customers check their balance online?
Two ways, use one or both: (1) in the app click Add block in theme editor, place the "Gift card balance" block on any page and save; (2) link the ready-made balance page /apps/gift-card-balance from your menu or footer. Customers type their gift card code and see the balance, the expiry date and the card status.
How do staff check a balance on Shopify POS?
On the POS home screen tap Add tile and choose Gift card balance. Staff can type the code, or scan the card's barcode or QR code with the camera or a connected scanner.
What are the QR codes for?
The balance page QR goes on counter signs, receipts or packaging inserts. The card QR is for physical gift cards: scanning it opens the balance page with the code already filled in, so the customer sees the balance in one tap. The code travels in the link fragment (after #), which browsers never send to a server.
Can someone guess gift card codes with the checker?
That is the main risk of any balance checker, and the app is built against it. After 5 wrong codes in 15 minutes a visitor is paused for 30 minutes; if your store receives 100 wrong codes in an hour, public checks pause for 15 minutes (POS keeps working). Only the full code finds a card: partial codes, last digits or customer names never reveal a balance.
Do you store gift card codes?
No. The code is used once to ask Shopify for the balance and then discarded. Results only show the last 4 characters. Visitor IP addresses are never stored; we keep a salted hash for at most a day to count failed attempts.
What is the liability report?
It reads your gift cards from Shopify and totals, per currency, the value issued, redeemed, still outstanding on active cards (what you owe customers) and left on expired or deactivated cards. Plus can export it card by card as CSV.
How does billing work?
Basic is $4/month (up to 2,000 balance checks a month, online store + POS). Plus is $12/month (unlimited checks, CSV export, priority support). Both include a 14-day free trial and are billed through Shopify, so charges appear on your Shopify invoice. You can upgrade, switch or cancel any time from the Plans card inside the app. Checks made from the app's admin page don't count toward the limit.
What happens if I reach the Basic limit?
Customers see a polite "not available right now" message until the next month, and the dashboard shows your usage. Upgrade to Plus for unlimited checks.
How do I remove my data?
Uninstall the app: we honor Shopify's app/uninstalled and shop/redact webhooks and delete your store's data. You can also request deletion at torhencompany@gmail.com. See the Privacy Policy.
